TICKETS FOR THE L.A. PREMIERE OF THE EXQUISITE CORPSE PROJECT AVAILABLE NOW!
The Exquisite Corpse Project: Director Ben Popik brings together five comedy writers, and surprises them with a challenge: to each write fifteen pages of a movie, having read only the previous five pages of the script. They agree with one stipulation: if they write the movie, he has to make it. It’s a comedy, a love story, a psycho-sexual thriller, and an inside-look into the often-hilarious creative process and the group dynamics that make collaboration between friends difficult.
Here’s the trailer:
We are thrilled to be premiering the film as part of the Dances With Films Festival, at the Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood, at 2:45pm on Saturday, June 2nd. This Saturday at midnight (tomorrow!), my guests at Fresh Out will be some of my favorite comics in the city:
Scott Chaplain
Shakir Standley
Justy Dodge
Doug Smith
and Jeffrey Joseph
Also, if midnight is too late for you, come to the UCBeast at 7PM for For My Moms. The awesome cartoonists Julia Wertz, Domitille Collardey, and Lisa Hanawalt will be doing cartoon readings, Adam Newman and I will do standup, and Lisa and I are going to premiere a video we made together!
Come and hang out with us for a night of comedy at UCBeast. If you come to BOTH shows, I’ll give you five dollars! (I’m not kidding.)
We are unlikely to cease making gods or inventing ceremonies to please them for as long as we are afraid of death, or of the dark, and for as long as we persist in self-centeredness. That could be a lengthy stretch of time. However, it is just as certain that we shall continue to cast a skeptical and ironic and even witty eye on what we have ourselves invented.Look, I’m no big Christopher Hitchens expert — I came across this line in a summary of what his friends said about him at his memorial service — but this sentiment struck me just right. The central claim of an atheist (an atheist like me, anyway) isn’t “There is no God!”; it’s that unlike chemistry or the speed of light, the notion of God is itself a man-made thing, an idea that wouldn’t have existed if it weren’t for people. And that means it should be treated as such: we get to talk about it, make fun of it, play with it, or get bored of it — and it means that believing in it isn’t any better than not believing in it. Believing is just a Thing People Do.

Hey P-peeps! (That stands for Portland people, which is what I assume people from Portland call themselves.) I’m going to be at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival this weekend. If you want to come see, I’ll be performing on the following shows:
If you guys are looking for me, I’ll be the guy eating the local Portland foodstuff down at the old Portland watering hole! See you all there!
